portrait & self-portrait
A portrait is an artistic representation of a person, capturing more than just a likeness. It reflects presence, mood, and character.
A self-portrait turns that gaze inward, offering the artist a mirror through which to explore identity.
This workshop invites you into the fascinating and intimate practice of portraiture. Whether you’re observing another or reflecting on yourself, making a portrait is a quiet conversation between the inner and outer world. It’s not just about accuracy; it’s about empathy, expression, and discovery.
Using a variety of materials and approaches, we explore how to see more closely and respond more directly.
These sessions aren’t about perfection but about presence: connecting eye, hand, and sensibility in a shared space of looking and making.

general
I’ll arrive 45 minutes before the session to prepare and set up the space. I recommend that participants arrive around 15 minutes early to settle in and make the most of the experience.
We’ll begin with a brief group tidy-up at the end of the session—this is part of normal studio practice. I’ll take care of the remaining clean-up afterwards.
